~~Mission Statement~~
The mission of Wainwright Elementary School is to inspire all students to attain academic excellence and encourage responsible citizenship.
We support our Wainwright mission statement by our belief that our school learning environment is positive, safe and democratic, fosters mutual respect for individual differences, and respects the culture of each student. Our students know that we expect the best of them in every way - academic achievement, social relationships, and emotional development. We provide clear statements of our expectations and expect that all members at Wainwright will exhibit respect for self and for others at all times. The staff at Wainwright participates in a number of professional development activities each year, including training for aligning instruction with reading and math standards. We participate in ongoing training on Standards-Based Instruction (SBI), as well as training in establishing learning targets and promoting Personalized Learning. We are also gaining valuable knowledge in culturally responsive standards-based teaching. Staff members continue to gain proficiency in monitoring students' progress and using data to inform instructional decisions. In an effort to continually improve our school, we implement new programs each year. All-day kindergarten provides more time for teaching and learning. Looping provides continuity for a class of kindergarten students staying with the same teacher for first grade in 2010-2011.
