October 22, 2010 Washington's highest improving schools were honored when School of Distinction Awards were announced for 2010.  This is an award for 5-year Improvement in Reading and Math.
 
  
Outstanding improvement in student achievement led to a special honor for 52 elementary schools, across the state of Washington, including Stafford Elementary; all recieved the 2010 School of Distinction Award from the Center for Educational Effectiveness and Phi Delta Kappa - Washington State Chapter.  This represents the 4th annual School of Distinction Award recognition in Washington State.
 
"Educators in these schools are creating systems of support for outstanding, sustained improvement in Reading and Math student performance", Sue Mills, Co-Founder and Executive Director, Center for Educational Effectiveness, said.  "This award celebrates the multi-year improvement in both Reading and Math not recognized in the federal No Child Left Behind law or in the year-to-year calculations of "Adequate Yearly Progress", said Mills.
