“It takes a whole village to raise a child.” With this African proverb in mind, Jefferson Elementary School opened its brand new building in September 2004: The concept of the structure is to create the look of a village. Within our building, you will experience an understanding that every adult is responsible for the education and well being of every child.

Jefferson continually engages in the development and implementation of the state-required school improvement plan. This plan focuses on meeting the academic needs of all students. As a result of our research and professional development opportunities, we created the vision of our school that:

• Using research-based curriculum and effective teaching practices, students are empowered.
• The role of the teacher is to empower, guide and provide meaningful, engaging and purposeful
   learning every day.
• Parents and community members provide a vital role in supporting, guiding and motivating students
   to connect their learning to the real world.
• Students have a greater capacity to engage in deeper understanding and more complex learning
   if he/she is passionate about a topic.
