Wilson High School
First Peoples Club
The purpose of First Peoples Club is to honor and support Native American & other students from indigenous nations.  The predominate membership is students of Native American decent, but student s of other indigenous nations are more than welcome. For example; during the month of November (Native American Month) students learn about their tribal affiliation and related customs. Students learn from Tribal Elders from local Indian tribes such things a music, flute crafting, crafting and making of regalia & the purpose of Pow Wow’s, honoring our Native American graduates’, etc. The club is also an outreach for disconnected, urbanized Native folk.  Our club and program seek to provide after school mentoring/tutoring through TPS District Office Native American program & parent/student committee. Members also have the opportunity to earn a food handlers permit (Paid for by TPS Native American grant funds, separate from ASB funds) as a pathway to employment.  We hold various workshops and attend field trips arranged by club members. First Peoples club will also be holding various fund raising events throughout the year to help support our club. Our student ran club recently received a $1,500 cash donation from the Muckleshoot Indian tribe to help promote the success of our students in First Peoples Club. First Peoples Club leadership is based on a Native American Tribal Council system. All have a voice and decisions are arrived at by consensus.
