Dear Manitou Park Families,
At Manitou Park Elementary we are extremely proud of the accomplishments of our students and staff, and strive to promote a caring and supportive learning environment.
Family involvement is foundational to our educational program. There is no doubt that there is a high correlation between student achievement and parent/community involvement. We all (not just teachers and school staff) have a responsibility to educate students. Families, businesses, social service agencies, and community colleges/universities all play a vital role in this effort.
To ensure the academic and social success of our students, Manitou Park will be focusing on the Nine Characteristics of High Performing Schools as identified by the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction and they are:
- Clear and shared focus
- High Standards and Expectations for All Students
- Effective School Leadership
- High Levels of Collaboration and Communication
- Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment Aligned with Standards
- Frequent Monitoring of Learning and Teaching
- Focused Professional Development
- Supportive Learning Environment
- High Levels of Family and Community Involvement.
Finally, the Manitou Park Elementary staff will continue to do our best to provide the children an excellent education, positive self-concept, and instill an enjoyment for learning.
MANITOU PARK TURNS 100!

Manitou Park Elementary School was founded on May 6, 1911. The first school, known as Manitou Park School, began in a portable in 1911, with Sara Cochrane teaching the first three grades in a one-room building. By 1919, the district built a four-room school on a new Manitou site. Additions and remodeling occurred in 1924, 1957 and 1967.
The current building at 4330 S. 66th St. opened in 1994. Through it all, the staff, community and students have continued their commitment to educational excellence and academic achievement. On Oct. 26, Manitou celebrated 100 years of rich history of growth and commitment to education.
