Dear Larchmont Families:
We had a very successful and smooth start to the new school year. Our Teachers have been busy teaching routines, procedures and how to conduct yourself appropriately at school. We have adopted a new Building Positive Discipline Program called CHAMPs. This approach teaches how to behave responsibly in each major activity and transition. CHAMPS stands for Conversations, Help, Activities, Move, Participate, Success. When students follow the CHAMPS expectations, it leads to success. I encourage you to ask your child if he or she knows CHAMPS. Ask when and how students can talk in class, get help, and get out of their seat. Ask them how they can demonstrate active participation, such as raise your hand, pair share, or talk to your partner. Ask them what the voice level should be in the hallways and in the cafeteria, and finally, have them demonstrate what a level 1, 2, 3, and 4 voice sounds like.
Our school counselor, Laurel Powell and I will be visiting every classroom and train students on the Bullying/Harassment/Sexual Harassment policy using age appropriate language.
In addition, all of our students have been tested in Reading and Math so that your child’s teacher knows what their strengths are and areas that need support. This year Partnership Conferences will be November 30th-December 2nd. This is the time you meeting with your child’s teacher to set up academic and social/behavioral goals for the year. Please make sure you sign up for a time to meet with your child’s teacher on one of these dates.
Attendance: I cannot stress enough how important it is to have your child arrive to school on time. The first bell rings at 8:55. School begins with the second bell ringing at 9:00. Instruction begins immediately after lunch and attendance count is taken. Those students who are late, miss out on the instructional portion of the lesson.
Our building goal is to have 95% attendance each month. At each monthly Spirit Assembly, we will recognize individual students who have perfect attendance for the month as well as classrooms with the highest average attendance.
Wishing you a great year!
Cynthia Horner
