Out of more than 1,000 schools across the country that applied for the NBC SMASH Make a Musical Initiative, Giaudrone Middle School made it to the top 30 schools with a chance to win big prizes. To win this competition, Giaudrone needs to be in the top 10 for the most online votes by May 4.
NBC’s ‘SMASH’ MAKE A MUSICAL is building new musical theater programs in underserved schools nationwide.
If not in the top 10, Giaudrone will lose its chance at school-wide improvements, like extra funds for the school stage, professional coaching from designers fresh off Broadway or free access to school musicals, according to Mario Penalver, Giaudrone's drama teacher. Currently, Giaudrone needs more votes to make the top 10.
It is easy to help Giaudrone get into the top 10 schools, just go to the SMASH Web site and click on Giaudrone. Vote every day until May 4. Check out Penalver’s Web site as well.
“The fact that we’ve made it this far is quite an honor, and because of the fact that we need online votes to stay in the running for the top 10, please vote for us,” said Penalver. “We’re the only school in our state to make it this far.”
