Toy inventor to work with N.E. Tacoma students

The Northeast Tacoma Elementary School PTA is sponsoring professional toy inventor and children’s presenter Rick Hartman on Dec. 15 and 16. Hartman has appeared on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” as well as on the Discovery Channel. Using some of history’s most important inventions and his own patented toys as examples, Hartman will put on an assembly program on Dec. 15 at 9:15 a.m. that will stoke student’s imaginations and bring to life the thinking skills that modern-day inventors use.

Hartman will stay for two days at Northeast Tacoma Elementary School and work with each grade level to build a toy for every student to take home. In the past, students have built:

  • rubber band-powered boats
  • a whirling acrobat
  • a sound generator
  • zipping, zooming cars and many more

The schedule for the two days will be:

Monday, Dec. 15

10:30–11:30 a.m.           First grade
11:40 a.m.–12:40 p.m.   Fifth grade
1:10–2:10 p.m.              Third grade
2:20–3:20 p.m.              Kindergarten

Tuesday, Dec. 16

10:20–11:20 a.m.          Second grade

All classes will take place in the gym. Contact PTA President Sara Smith at srbesmith1@aol.com or at 253.925.9265 for more information.
