The Stadium Aqua-rama Committee consists of students and advisors from Stadium High School representing all of the aquatics programs and the Physical Education department. Stadium is hosting an Aqua-rama on Saturday, May 30, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
From 5 to 7 p.m. there will be a Dive-in Movie.
The Aquarama is an event designed to introduce, present and promote lifetime health, fitness, sport and recreation to students, the school district, the local community and the Pierce County area. “All things aquatic is the vehicle to promote this,” said David Baughman, Aqua-rama Committee advisor. “We believe that there is no time-line or time limit on a healthy life, and we are all actively involved in many different areas of aquatics. We want to share all of these kinds of activities and promote the individuals, clubs, teams and vendors for every area of aquatics with the hope that we can build lifetime activities for more people.”
The event will have three different areas of interest with the hope of reaching everyone:
1. Keynote speakers/presenters will be available for a question/answer session, and a meet-and-greet following the presentations. Olympic participants and coaches representing both the Northwest and beyond will participate. Baughman said Speedo has committed to the event and will bring Speedo champions with them.
2. An aquatics expo and trade show will be on site, representing as many different areas of aquatics as possible. At this time, the committee has lined up swimming, rowing, sailing, skim boarding, kayaking and scuba groups. Metro Parks and the YMCA will also be partners in the Aqua-rama.
3. Stadium’s pool will be available for multiple events during the day including: USS officially sanctioned timed 50’s, introductions to scuba and kayaking and a Dive-in (or Float-in) movie.
The Aqua-rama Committee wants to encourage everyone to adopt a healthy lifestyle and to share aquatics with the community at large. Please contact Dave Baughman at Stadium High School at 253.571.3076 if you have any questions or want to be involved in the Aqua-rama.
