Public hearing Aug. 26: Possible sale of Gault Middle School

Published: 8/20/2010

The school board will conduct a public hearing Thursday, Aug. 26, at 6 p.m. to listen to comments from the community on the possible sale of Gault Middle School to the Puyallup Tribe of Indians.

Late in June the Puyallup Tribe of Indians sent a letter to the district expressing an interest in buying the vacant Gault Middle School property. The tribe’s publicly stated use for the facility includes, but is not limited to, a community center, including recreation and education for the tribe and neighboring community.

The City of Tacoma and Metro Parks Tacoma will be involved in sale negotiations because of the indoor pool currently operated at Gault by Metro Parks.

In addition, the district will have a market value appraisal of the property by a professionally designated real estate appraiser prior to any sale.

The hearing will be in the fourth-floor auditorium at the Central Administration Building, 601 S. Eighth St. This community outreach phase is part of the process for selling school district real property. If you have any questions, please contact the Public Information Office at 253-571-1015.
