Point Defiance Elementary School will be closed tomorrow, Thursday, May 17. Early today, a break in the water line was detected and emergency repairs initiated. The School District brought in portable toilets and other supplies necessary to operate school safely today.
The School District is working cooperatively with the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department, which must inspect the emergency repair to the main water line to the school.
Once the Health Department inspects the water line repair and determines the water supply is clean and safe, the school can reopen on Friday. Should the District encounter any difficulties that would delay the reopening beyond Thursday, we will notify you.
Students will not have to make up the lost school day. Staff of the school will report to work at the Professional Development Center Thursday on their normal schedule.
