Oct. 8 school board meeting

Lincoln Center progress
Co-principals of Lincoln High School and Lincoln Center, Pat Erwin and Greg Eisnaugle, updated the board on the progress of Lincoln Center. They credited the high-quality teachers for much of the success of Lincoln Center and their commitment to the extended-day and extended-year model.

WASL to be replaced this spring
Pat Cummings, director of Research and Evaluation, explained the new assessment tests that will replace the Washington Assessment for Student Learning (WASL) this spring and how they are different from the WASL. He also showed the board where to find WASL statistics on the district Web site.

Other actions
The board approved:

  • The contract with SLP Services, LLC for the 2009-10 school year for speech-language pathology telepractice services, which allows the district to meet state and federal requirements for a free, appropriate public education for students eligible for speech-language services under IDEA and No Child Left Behind.
  • The mitigation agreement with Northshore Investors, LLC for the proposed Point at Northshore Development, a residential development in the northeast portion of the district. This agreement is for the impact of the development on the school district, and a mitigation fee will be paid for each unit constructed.

Next meeting
The next board meeting will be held on Thursday, Oct. 22, with a study session on the bond/levy at 5 p.m. in the fourth-floor auditorium at the Central Administration Building, 601 S. 8th St. The regular school board meeting will follow the study session.
