Northeast Tacoma to dedicate library to former student

Northeast Tacoma Elementary School will dedicate its school library to honor former student Sgt. Michael T. Washington, Thursday, Nov. 10, at 2 p.m. Washington enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps to protect his country as a result of the 9-11 events, and died at age 20 on June 14, 2008, in Afghanistan from a roadside bomb explosion.
 
 Washington also attended Meeker Middle School and graduated from Stadium High School in 2005.
 
Congressman Adam Smith will help dedicate the Michael T. Washington Memorial Library, along with former teachers, family members and friends of the Washington family.
 
The Veterans of Foreign Wars, Stadium High School JROTC, Boy Scouts, Marine Corps and veterans from Northeast Tacoma will take part in the event.
Stadium High School also honored Washington’s memory. An annual golf tournament held each August honors the soldier.
