The new middle school on Portland Avenue will combine the student populations of Gault Middle School and McIlvaigh Middle School when it opens in September 2009. It is being constructed on the McIlvaigh campus with funds from the 2001 bond issue.
The district decided to use the Giaudrone Middle School design, with some modifications, to expedite the new middle school design and construction, and because the Giaudrone building design has proven to be a successful model for students and staff.
The new school will have 118,104 square feet and a capacity for 850 students. The cost of the project is $50 million and it is on schedule and on budget.
