Manitou Park welcomes Assistant Principal Lawrence Brown

Lawrence Brown will again welcome students to Manitou Park Elementary School this fall – but not as a teacher. Brown will serve as Manitou’s new assistant principal, replacing James Neil who became principal of Birney Elementary School.

Brown taught fifth graders at Manitou Park for the past four years. Before coming to Tacoma, he taught fourth, fifth, seventh and eighth grades in Chicago Public Schools for 11 years.

Brown served in the Army National Guard from 1981 to 2011, achieving the rank of major while serving as a military intelligence officer. Brown also served with the Illinois Army National Guard in Iraq from 2006 to 2007 and worked as a training operations officer in the Army Reserve from 2007 to 2011.

Brown received a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Jackson State University in Mississippi in 1987. He earned a Master of Arts degree in curriculum and instruction from Concordia University in Illinois in 1997 and a Master of Arts degree in educational administration from Governors State University in Illinois in 2000.
