Lincoln drumlines sponsor Hip Hop Arts Showcase June 3

The Hip Hop Arts Showcase Friday, June 3, at Lincoln High School will feature rappers, step teams, singers, dance crews and the Lincoln drumline, coached by Peter Briggs, Lincoln band, orchestra and drumline director. The proceeds from the event will help the drumline attend a drumline summer camp at Central Washington University.

Tickets cost $5 before the event and $7 at the door. Contact Briggs at 253-571-6636 or by e-mail at pbriggs@tacoma.k12.wa.us for tickets or more information about the showcase.

Performing groups include:
• Lincoln Drumline
• Tymeless Crew
• Joshua Sands
• D.O.G.P.
• Baby Bosses
• Tita Ah-Hee
• Femme Fatal Blix Blazers
• Lincoln High School Cheer Squad

Director Peter Briggs formed the Lincoln drumline two and a half years ago as a class at Lincoln High School. The program has grown large enough to support varsity and junior varsity drumlines that perform at school events, competitions and community events. Recent highlights include performances at Tacoma Rainiers games, the Be the Spark event with Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Garfield High School’s Invitational Drumline Competition.

“The program is focused around three words: intensity, integrity and impact,” Briggs said. “These words are double-entendres, each referencing developing character as well as musicality. Like much of Lincoln High School, the drumline provides youth with means to better themselves and their community through participating in positive programs.”
