Kindergarten students will attend school half days for their first three days of school on Sept. 5, 6 and 7, 2012. This new practice, beginning this school year, will allow time for early parent-teacher conferences aimed at making the transition to kindergarten easier for students and their families. Kindergarten teachers will get to know their students better and understand any issues or concerns parents have.
Schools will release kindergarten students at 12:15 p.m. after providing them lunch on the three half days. Please note, however, mid-day transportation will not be available on those three days. Parents will need to make arrangements to pick up their students. In the event that parents prefer to have their child remain at school all day, they need to inform their child’s school. Schools will offer educational activities for the students whose parents select this alternative.
Kindergartners will begin attending school full days Monday, Sept. 10. Families will receive more information in August about the start of school for their kindergarten student and options for meeting with their student’s teacher.
With the exception of Geiger Montessori School, all elementary schools will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day Aug. 6-9 for registration. If parents have not enrolled their kindergartner, they should do so during these four days. Early enrollment will help schools with staffing, placement and communication.
The Early Learning Department is available to answer any questions parents may have until schools open on Aug. 23. Please call 253- 571-1415 or e-mail
