Choose school-appropriate gifts for your child

Winter break is over and some students may have received a BB gun or “Airsoft” gun as a gift. The Tacoma Public Schools (TPS) and the Tacoma Police Department (TPD) would like to remind families to talk to their child about not bringing anything to school that could appear to be dangerous.

It is against the Tacoma School District policy for a student to be in possession of any potentially dangerous weapon at school. Doing so will result in immediate disciplinary action. Possession of any firearms or air-guns, such as BB guns or “Airsoft” guns, will result in an immediate expulsion from school, and possible criminal prosecution.

Choosing safe toys for your child is the first step. Then, closely monitor what your child decides to bring to school to share with his/her classmates. Please remind your child to tell a responsible adult if he/she sees a weapon at school, on a school bus or to or from school.

Please contact the Public Information Office at 253.571.1015 for more information.
