Edison and Sheridan elementary schools will have new assistant principals for the 2012-2013 school year.
The new assistant principal assignments are:
- Edison Elementary School — Julia Bare transfers from a teaching position in the Peninsula School District.
- Sheridan Elementary School — Kecia Keller transfers from working as an instructional facilitator at Point Defiance and Skyline elementary schools.
Superintendent Carla Santorno based the assignment decisions on the best match between each assistant principal’s strengths and an assessment of each school’s needs.
New to Tacoma Public Schools, Bare has served in the Peninsula School District since 2003 as a K-2 science specialist, a third-grade, fifth-grade and multi-age classroom teacher and a principal intern.
In addition, Bare worked as a home/hospital tutor and a snowboarding instructor at Crystal Mountain Ski School. Her professional experience also includes serving as a realtor in Gig Harbor and as an abuse support advocate.
Bare earned a bachelor’s degree in public health in 2002 from Central Washington University and a master’s degree in elementary education from City University in 2003. She attended Seattle Pacific University from 2008-2010 to earn her principal certification.
Keller taught elementary students in Tacoma Public Schools for 20 years from 1987-2008. She has served as an instructional facilitator the last four years. Keller was an administrative intern from 2010-2011 and a summer school administrator in 2011.
Keller earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in elementary education from Western Washington University in 1987. She completed her master’s in educational leadership from City University in Seattle in 2011.
