Construction Update

During construction, Washington and Hoyt school buildings are closed. Parents, students and visitors can stop by Washington-Hoyt swing site at 6501 S. 10th St. or call the main office at 253-571-5700. The construction timetable remains the same and Washington Elementary School plans to reopen in the fall of 2014.
 
Washington Elementary is a recognized historic building in the Proctor District in Tacoma. The school was built in 1906 and had significant additions in 1949. The proposed project will be to remodel and restore the original historic building, replace the 1949 gymnasium with new construction and add a new cafeteria, stage, gymnasium, library and classrooms. The proposed additions are in character of the school’s history. Site amenities will include a new playground with turf play field and covered play area, a bus drop off zone and on-street perpendicular parking.

Estimated construction project schedule for Washington Elementary is:
May 2, 2013—Advertisement #1 for bids, construction documents available
May 9, 2013—Advertisement #2 for bids, construction documents available
May 14, 2013—Building/on-site walk-through for contractors, 4 p.m. (Mandatory for prime contractors)
May 30, 2013—Open bids at Purchasing Department
July 8, 2013—Contractor begins at Washington
July 2014—Substantial completion
Sept 2014—School opening
