Educational Programs & Operations Replacement Levy

Not a New Tax - Replaces Expiring Levy

  • Replaces expiring levy passed by voters in 2006
  • Pays for 22.4 % of the day-to-day school operating budget

Supports Teachers and Keeps Small Classes

  • Classroom teachers and instructional aides
  • Nurses, counselors, librarians, staff
  • Small class sizes (below state average)
  • The equivalent of 600 teachers in Tacoma schools
  • Academic programs for all students
  • Classes for high-achieving students
  • Programs to bring students up to grade-level
  • Programs for students with special needs
  • Arts, Music, and Athletics, extracurricular programs
  • Technology support

Classroom and School Basics

  • Up-to-date textbooks and curriculum, classroom materials
  • Basic maintenance of healthy, safe and secure schools
  • Maintaining safe playgrounds, playfields and sports facilities
  • Safety and security systems, emergency preparedness
  • On-going school maintenance, utilities, transportation

Costs

  • Average annual levy rate would be $3.53 per $1,000 assessed home value for 4 years:
