The federal School Improvement Grant (SIG) initiative identifies the lowest-performing 5 percent of schools in each state and then prescribes new academic models and issues grants to help those schools. Tacoma has four middle schools – Giaudrone, Hunt, Jason Lee and Stewart – on the lowest-performing list in Washington state. Tacoma Public Schools provides periodic updates on the process to improve student achievement at these schools. See the news releases below for the latest updates.
