District Budget Outlook

The State of Washington has a multi-billion-dollar budget deficit due to the economic recession. Gov. Chris Gregoire has proposed a wide range of budget cuts, including a cut of $2.2 billion to K-12 education in the next two-year state budget.

Since then, the House and Senate have now approved state budgets that make a total of $1.9 billion in cuts to K-12 education.

For Tacoma Public Schools, the reductions in state funding will mean budget cuts estimated at more than $20 million over the next three years.

On this page you will find updated information about the impacts of the state cuts to Tacoma schools, news reports on education budgets across the state, contact information for your local legislators and links that allow you to ask budget-related questions of us or submit your budget-related comments to the Superintendent and School Board Members.
