How do communities use, manage,
and conserve water resources?

It is important that communities manage, conserve, and protect their water resources.
Communities express connections to their unique water environments through language, arts, and customs.
General Knowledge
People need water for many reasons.
-drink -bathe, clean -irrigate -recreation
-agriculture -manufacturing -transportation
A community must provide clean and safe drinking water to its residents.
Communities get water in many ways.
It is important to the health of people and the environment that wastewater and sewage is disposed of and properly treated
Everyone must conserve water because there is a limited amount.
Tacoma Knowledge/Skills
Tacoma receives most of its water from the Green River in South King county.
Tacoma Water supplements its Green River supply with groundwater from more than 20 wells.
Tacoma’s Wastewater Treatment Facility is one of the most technologically advanced treatment facilities in the US.Tacoma also manages its stormwater.... DON’T DUMP ANYTHING INTO A STORM DRAIN THAT YOU WOULDN’T WANT TO GO IN PUGET SOUND.
Tacoma celebrates its water heritage with the Maritime Festival held in September.
