Washington-Hoyt Elementary School

Washington-Hoyt’s mission is to create a partnership of students, staff, families and community members who are working to empower our students to meet the highest academic standards, to develop social and emotional maturity, and to acquire the skill to be lifelong learners and responsible citizens. To accomplish this we will:

  • Set high standards and expectations
  • Share knowledge and encourage individual growth
  • Embrace change and improvement
  • Develop a safe and collaborative environment for students, staff and families
  • Utilize data and best practices to direct instruction.

 

 

 5th to 6th Grade Transition

 

Tacoma School District is the proud recipient of a grant provided by the RAIKES Foundation to support  students and families in the transition from 5th to 6th grade in the Mason/Truman region. The RAIKES Foundation is dedicated to the belief that regular participation in high quality programs leads to better personal, social and academic outcomes and higher self-esteem.  http://raikesfoundation.org

 

The focus of the grant for the 2011-12 school year will include:

  • Implementation of the AVID program in 5th and 6th grades  OVERVIEW OF AVID
  • Strong collaboration between teachers  in the Mason/Truman regions
  • Increased communication with families about successful transition to middle school
