Grant Elementary School

Grant Center for the Expressive Arts, a small school, is committed to learning through the arts as a means of strengthening basic skills, heightening academic achievement while enhancing creative and critical thinking skills. Grant believes learning through the arts has a powerful effect on a student's level of investment, participation and intellectual curiosity.

 

 5th to 6th Grade Transition

 

Tacoma School District is the proud recipient of a grant provided by the RAIKES Foundation to support students and families in the transition from 5th to 6th grade in the Mason/Truman region. The RAIKES Foundation is dedicated to the belief that regular participation in high quality programs leads to better personal, social and academic outcomes and higher self-esteem. http://raikesfoundation.org

The focus of the grant for the 2011-12 school year will include:

  • Implementation of the AVID program in 5th and 6th grades
     Overview of AVID (pdf)
  • Strong collaboration between teachers  in the Mason/Truman regions
  • Increased communication with families about successful transition to middle school
